Not all roofing is created equal. Have you heard of a cool roof? These roofing shingles contain highly reflective paint, a sheet covering, or reflective tiles. Cool roofing reflects more sunlight and absorbs less heat, keeping your home cooler in the summer. And who wouldn’t want their home to be more energy efficient?!

Roofs without cool technology can reach temperatures of 150°F or more on a summer day, according to energy.gov. With cool roof technology, your home could stay more than 50°F cooler. Imagine how much you could save on cooling bills! Decreasing the temperature of your roof may also slow shingle deterioration, making your roof last longer.

GAF Timberline Cool Series Energy Efficient Roofing

GAF Timberline Cool Series (Antique Slate)

Several manufacturers make a solar reflective, energy efficient cool roof for residential homes. Previously, lighter-colored or white shingles were the material of choice when designing a cool roof. GAF and CertainTeed now incorporate highly reflective ceramic granules on their cool roof shingles and offer color options in addition to white.

Harvey Building Products carries GAF Timberline® Cool Series®  shingles and CertainTeed Landmark Solaris™ ENERGY STAR® qualified shingles. Interested in replacing your roof with cool roofing shingles? Ask your Harvey contractor, or find a local contractor on HBP ProZone, our contractor referral program.

Exterior Trim from Harvey Building ProductsEveryone wants a home that’s warm, welcoming, and one they can be proud of. Many homeowners spend hundreds of hours each year maintaining the outside of their home. From back-breaking yard work to patching the driveway to repairing worn out fixtures, etc., it seems like a never-ending job! But there’s yet another way to liven up your home’s exterior: High quality exterior trim.

According to Fine Homebuilding Magazine, “an exterior trim package that consists merely of the most basic elements and that displays little or no distinction between pieces can result in flat, almost two-dimensional exteriors that lack character. By contrast, a robust trim package that consists of a hierarchy of elements and sizes creates a rich exterior that draws us in and holds our interest.”

Harvey Building Products agrees that exterior trim is an important part of a home’s curb appeal. That’s why we offer customizable millwork and trim to meet your needs. Thanks to our millwork shop, we’re able to bend boards and mouldings to your exact specifications. In addition, our PVC Exterior Trim Kits are pre-fabricated to provide quality workmanship and a precision fit that installs in just minutes. Need it painted? No problem! All Harvey PVC millwork and trim kits are paintable and come with a limited lifetime warranty, so you can rest assured knowing we got you covered.

Looking to compliment the architectural style of your home? Want to add a touch of elegance? Millwork and trim can give walls, edges and corners the finishing touch your home needs. Interested in learning more? Visit our website and download our PVC Products brochure.

Spring is upon us, and we’re dreaming of barbeques, family picnics and sunny days by the pool. But, while your mind may be in full summer mode, you may want to check to see if your deck is as ready as you are. Is it split, faded or scratched? Does your decking material look tired and worn, with a few nails popping out? If so, it may be time to upgrade to that deck you’ve always dreamed of.

Choosing the right decking material is one of the most important decisions you’ll make. Why? Because this determines the amount of maintenance, aesthetics, and the return on investment you’ll see in the long run. Your final choice will most likely be between PVC and capped composite decking material.

AZEK Deck Available from Harvey Building ProductsPVC decking is 100% plastic containing no wood fiber. Twenty years ago, plastic decking did not provide the look of natural wood grain. However, with today’s advanced technology, companies like AZEK have you covered. They’ve created materials that capture the natural look and feel of real wood which most homeowners are looking for. With the broadest color assortment on the market, plus minimal maintenance (an occasional soap and water wash) PVC decking is a great option. Nearly all AZEK decking products are backed by a limited lifetime warranty and a 30 year fade and stain warranty, giving you piece of mind years down the road.

Trex Decking Available from Harvey Building ProductsCapped composite is made of 95% recycled materials consisting of wood flour and plastic, mixed together with a thin veneer of PVC like material wrapped over it. With a lower cost than PVC decking, capped composite manufacturers offer a durable product with enhanced scratch, stain and fade resistant properties. Trex was the first company to combine the durability of recycled plastic with the natural beauty of reclaimed wood in a high-performance decking product. They offer a 25 year fade and stain warranty in addition to their 25 year limited residential warranty. Premium tropical tones, plus the classic natural color offerings from Trex, are eye catching, durable, and require simple soap and water maintenance.

Harvey Building Products can help you make the right choice. Stop by a Harvey Product Showroom and look at samples in a variety of colors and options. Our knowledgeable staff can help answer any questions you might have, and show you some complementary railing options as well.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but a visit to a Harvey product showroom is worth much more! When you’re looking through a brochure, you can’t tell exactly how bright a particular shade of vinyl siding is. Looking for a certain texture? How much does it look like real wood up close? There’s nothing like being able to see, feel, and compare products in a real-life setting.

Harvey Product Showroom ProZoneAfter receiving a heartfelt letter from a Massachusetts couple, we wanted to pass along their experience with our Burlington, MA showroom and HBP ProZone®.

The Froburgs needed roofing and siding products, and were told by a friend in the construction business that Harvey carried quality building products. Unsure of what to choose, they decided to stop into our showroom and learn more.

Fred, our showroom expert, was able to show them various styles of siding and roofing on display as well as all of the available colors. After choosing Mastic siding and CertainTeed roofing, the couple next visited www.hbp-prozone.com and received a list of local contractors. They went on to say how pleased they were with the contractor and his work, and how lucky they feel “every time we drive in our driveway, go out to retrieve our mail, or look out a window.”

Our Burlington, MA location is a stand alone showroom, and our other showrooms are located inside some of our branches. Please visit our website for specific information about locations, and days/hours of operation. HBP ProZone, our contractor referral program, is available 24/7, and you’ll receive a list of local Harvey contractors after filling out a short form.

Acoustic windowsWe all want our homes to be our safe haven. Home should be a place we go to relax and wind down after a long day. If you live in a noisy neighborhood, however, your home can be anything but tranquil. Studies have shown that excessive noise can affect our bodies, our sleep, and even harm a child’s development.

Fortunately, there are many ways to reduce the amount of noise in your home. These include:

• Replacing appliances with quieter, more energy-efficient models
• Adding carpeting to lessen the noise bouncing off of hardwood floors
• Weatherstripping around interior doors

If you’re ready to install new windows in your home, consider acoustic windows. The Harvey Classic vinyl acoustic window system integrates our secondary-glazed thermal unit with a Classic vinyl double hung, with special glazing for extra noise reduction. Do you deal with unwanted noise from aircraft, trains, automobiles, and other nuisances? Acoustic windows can make a noticeable difference.

Harvey acoustic windows are available in several styles; choose from double hung, picture, casement, and rolling windows. Visit our website to download a brochure for more information.

Installing a storm door can also help reduce the level of unwanted noise. In addition, storm doors provide extra protection against the elements. Harvey Building Products carries Estate Series, Traditional, and Lifetime storm doors. For more information about Harvey storm doors, visit our website and download a Storm Products brochure.

Contractors: The wait is over! We’re kicking off our Harvey trade shows tomorrow in Allentown, PA, with three other shows scheduled over the next month.

Harvey Plinko at Trade ShowsIf you’re able to pre-register online more than 7 days before the show, you’re in for something special. Pre-registrants who bring their early registration badge to the show get to try their luck at Harvey Plinko!

What’s Plinko? Well, the name came from the “plink” sound the chips make as they come down the board. The board is made up of a field of pegs, with each row offset from the previous row. You place the Plinko chip at the top of the board, and the chip bounces around between the pegs until it hits one of the bottom slots. You get three Plinko chips, and if you make a match…you win! Even if you don’t make a match, everyone gets a prize just for playing. So why not pre-register and get your chance to play Plinko?! Only pre-registered attendees get to play, so don’t miss out.

Harvey CertainTeed Duffel Bag Trade ShowsNeed more reasons to attend Harvey trade shows this year? How about a free duffel bag? Each attendee at this year’s trade show will receive a Harvey/CertainTeed duffel bag like the one shown here. It’s great for the gym, or maybe keeping a change of clothes at the job site in case the unexpected happens! It’s a durable, high quality duffel bag and it’s yours if you attend one of our four shows. And, as always, admission to Harvey trade shows is free.

If those reasons aren’t enough, we’ve got more!

• Networking with vendors and the Harvey team
• Check out new product displays and watch live demonstrations
• “Growing your Business in a Thriving Economy” presentation by Mark Richardson
• Hors d’oeuvres and refreshments

Harvey Trade Shows Grand PrizeAnd, last but certainly not least, our Grand Prize Raffle! Depending upon which show you attend, you can enter to win either a 2016 Ski-Doo snowmobile or a 2016 Can-Am ATV. In addition, the Grand Prize winner at each show also receives a $1,500 gift certificate to a local outdoor sports center to purchase accessories for their new snowmobile or ATV. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast (or know someone who is), this would be an amazing prize to win. Building Envelope - Harvey Climate Defense SystemIf you read home improvement blogs or magazines, you’ve probably seen the term “building envelope”. Have you wondered what that is? According to Wikipedia, a building envelope is the physical separator between the conditioned and unconditioned environment of a building. This includes the resistance to air, water, heat, light, and noise transfer.

If you want your home to be energy efficient, you want a tight building envelope. Harvey Building Products offers a complete system of housewrap, flashings, and construction tape. We call it the Harvey Climate Defense System.

Benefits of installing the HCDS include:

• Unbeatable tear strength (more than twice the industry standard)
• Outstanding UV resistance
• Will not degrade over time
• Will not absorb or retain water and prevents air leakage

Best of all, we’ve got the best warranty in the business for remodeling projects. When the complete Harvey Climate Defense System of required products is installed with Harvey windows and patio doors, you’ll get a 20 year limited warranty on product and labor. This warranty refers to replacement applications; see our website or ask your Harvey contractor for full product and warranty information.

Doors and windows are also key components of the building envelope. We manufacture a variety of windows, including vinyl, wood, impact, acoustic, and storm windows. As you may know, Harvey Building Products has several energy-efficient window glazing options that will help keep you comfortable and your energy costs down. When you need new storm, patio, or entry doors, we’ve got you covered there, too. In fact, we set up Therma-Tru entry doors in our Londonderry, NH manufacturing facility. This gives us the flexibility to service customers with short turnaround times and quality control.

Visit our website for more information on the products we manufacture and distribute.
